Games
Here are some video games that help build computational thinking
Human Resource Machine
Human Resource Machine is my personal favourite way to teach programming. You play as an office worker who processes data, by taking it from an inbox and sending it to an outbox. For a beginner programmer, it teaches the idea of following a sequence of tasks to do something.
Baba Is You
Baba Is You is a block-pusher puzzle game where the rules of the game are themselves blocks. If a wall is blocking your way, just find wherever WALL is STOP is and break it. All the game asks of you is that something must be YOU and something must be WIN and both must be in the same space, but this leads to some very interesting ideas. This game is pretty hard, so it's okay to take breaks often. There's also a very useful non-spoiler guide called Baba is Hint which should push you in the right direction without giving too much away.
7 Billion Humans
This is the sequel to Human Resource Machine. This time you play as multiple people, and any instruction you give is done by all of them. It's tricky but just as satisfying.
Factorio
Factorio is a game about harvesting resources to build factories. While not directly related to programming, a lot of the logic that goes into maintaining a good factory is also used in sotfware development.
Mission Control
For the sake of completeness, this is the game that taught me computational thinking. Would be hard to find nowadays, but if you find a copy and set up dosbox it's worth a try.
