Keyboards: Vial firmwares
What is Vial?
Some keyboards use a firmware called QMK. This lets you adjust every aspect of how the keyboard works, allowing you to move butttons around or add macros. Unfortunately:
- QMK requires you to write code in C
- After that you need to upload the firmware to the computer
Vial is an extension to QMK that lets you go to the Vial website and edit your keyboard directly from your browser. It's really convenient and I love using Vial everywhere I can.
Where do I get firmware for my keyboard?
Vial is a small project so they don't always have a pre-made Vial layout for you to flash to your keyboard. Some keyboard manufacturers like Beekeeb and SplitKB provide Vial, but for other keyboards you need to build it yourself using the Vial porting guide
