Why make a blog now, in the age of AI?

I have a hard time trusting websites. When I search for anything on the Internet, most results are SEO-optimized slop. For a while I could add "reddit" to the end of my posts, because as much as I dislike Reddit at least there are humans there with human opinions. Unfortunately they've decided to kill off the Old Reddit interface (the one that actually works) for people who aren't logged in, and I'm not making a Reddit account. This is the tipping point that made me make a blog.

What other websites are we supposed to trust? Youtube and Stack Overflow would be my next bets, but they are buckling under the weight of generative AI. The AI assistants themselves are trained on the SEO-optimized slop, so I trust them just as much. The Internet I grew up with is being strangled.

The Internet was built on the creative spark of people who just wanted to share their knowledge with the world. That Internet is still there, buried under the current one. It's made of tiny websites run by hobbyists, and that's the Internet I want to take part in. I made this blog so that I could guarantee that there's at least one place on the Internet I could point to and say "That site can be trusted".

It's a bit sparse right now. I'll keep adding articles and guides when I get the chance.
